Neighborhood Spotlight: Sloan’s Lake Tap & Burger

Not only does Lakehouse Denver offer a rare opportunity to own a lakefront residence just miles from Downtown Denver, it’s also located just steps away from some of the most buzzed-about restaurants in the area like Sloan’s Lake Tap & Burger.

Located just two blocks from Lakehouse, Tap & Burger is a true Colorado-born business with three locations around the Mile High City. Complete with 20 flat-screen televisions, 40-plus local beers on tap and an extensive menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads and sides, Tap & Burger offers a fun and inviting atmosphere, perfect for catching a midday game or enjoying lunch out on the spacious patio.

According to Westword, “Neither re-creating the classic nor redesigning it until it’s no longer recognizable, Sloan’s Lake offers burgers that fall somewhere in the middle, rethinking the American icon while still celebrating it. Also intact is the casual, seat-yourself attitude of the staffers, who are friendly and prompt but behave more like sports-bar employees than restaurant servers. The tap handles represent an interesting and well-rounded run of mostly Colorado beers. But the partners behind Sloan’s Lake recognize the importance of food at their place, too, and applied a fine-dining sensibility to a pub-like menu. The result is a board that focuses on burgers and other typical bar-food items — but burgers and bar-food items that taste much better than those at your typical bar.”

We sat down with Juan Padro, the owner of Tap & Burger, to get the inside scoop on what future Lakehouse residents have to look forward to at the Sloan’s Lake location:

Why did you decide to open Tap & Burger in Sloan’s Lake? What drew you to the community?
The biggest draw for us was that we already had a presence in north Denver and we wanted to continue our commitment to the area. With areas that are rebuilding we look at it is as an opportunity to establish a business with responsible practices in the right ways and saw that Sloan’s Lake was a place where we can embrace diversity, work with schools on improving education and work with residents to understand how to create a place they want to live and spend their time.

What would you consider some of the “Staples” on the menu and why?
Smoked wings are definitely a staple. We like to do things that are recognizable but a little bit different. The Shroom Luva Burger is really unique and was named one of the 15 best burgers in America by Zagat. As we’ve evolved and created better relationships with our community, we’ve also evolved our menu with local grass-fed beef and a plant-based section where everyone can go and have an option.

Is there anything new/noteworthy future Lakehouse residents can look forward to from Sloan’s Lake Tap & Burger?
At our Sloan’s Lake location, we do a lot of events ranging from beer dinners to community runs and fundraisers that we look forward to welcoming Lakehouse residents at. We mirror what goes on in the restaurant world in Denver like tapping exclusive beers for the Great American Beer Festival, hosting a great whiskey selection and unique signature cocktails. Once the first residents move-in this fall, we look forward to working with them to program fun events at Sloan’s Lake Tap & Burger that they will be interested in.
