NAVA Real Estate Development Partners with Habitat for Humanity

We’re pleased to announce that the developer of Lakehouse Denver, NAVA Real Estate Development, has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help build the Galapago Townhomes, an affordable housing development consisting of nine townhomes, located near Evans and Santa Fe in the Overland Park neighborhood.

As a Colorado-based company focused on improving communities through quality design and healthy programming, NAVA continues to lead the way for residential real estate development in Denver. The Galapago Townhomes will be the developer’s third project in the Mile High City, joining the notable Lakehouse and Uptown communities.

“NAVA is honored to be the first Colorado developer to partner with Habitat to fulfill our affordable housing requirements for the City of Denver,” states Brian Levitt, president of NAVA. “Investing in the construction of homes for families at 30-80 percent AMI is the way we wanted to give back to the Denver community while connecting with an impactful organization that shares our social values. We can’t wait to join Habitat and future owners in March to help build the homes.”

Habitat began work on the site in October and already more than 80 cubic tons of concrete has been poured for the foundation walls of the nine-plex townhome project, the largest foundation Habitat’s has poured in its 39-year history. The team from NAVA, along with its Lakehouse construction and design partners of G.H. Phipps Construction Companies and Stantec will gather onsite to lend a hand in the construction of the townhomes in March 2019 with completion expected for late 2019.

“Habitat for Humanity is so grateful for the generous support from NAVA, which helped us kick off the development of our Galapago Townhomes,” shares Mike Criner, Chief Operating Officer at Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver. “NAVA not only provided significant financial support to help us acquire and develop this property, but they’re also engaging their staff to help build the homes alongside the future homeowners.”

NAVA is sponsoring the construction of four of the nine townhomes to fulfill some of the affordable housing requirements of its Lakehouse community. Now under construction on the south shore of Sloan’s Lake, Lakehouse features 196 condominium and rowhome residences just minutes from downtown Denver and close to the Highlands and Edgewater neighborhoods. The Lakehouse project is the first in Colorado to pilot and pursue the WELL Building Standard, a globally-recognized certification program that promotes human health and wellness within the built environment. Lakehouse’s design incorporates best practices from WELL like enhanced thermal, visual and acoustical comfort; MERV-13 air filtration; increased window sizes for natural light; edible landscaping; and the use of natural and durable materials. NAVA has also engaged the services of non-profit, Realwell, to the Galapagos site. With a mission to promote healthier buildings, Realwell utilizes its established network to unite healthcare professionals, wellness experts, designers and the public with the real estate community to implement best practices that enhance the well-being of building occupants. The team is working with Habitat for Humanity to incorporate a few health-focused features into the homes at Galapago, as well as future Habitat for Humanity projects.

In addition to recommending filtration systems for enhanced air and water quality, blackout shades to boost natural Circadian rhythms, and materials to build and maintain edible gardens, Realwell is also teaming up with Habitat to create an educational syllabus for the future owners.

Habitat homeowners are required to put in 200 hours of sweat equity, including home buyer education courses. While the educational portion will focus on tips for maintaining a home and responsible finances, Realwell is adding additional content and resources to educate and encourage future residents to live healthier lives.
