Partner Spotlight: TRIO Design

As the first project in Colorado to pilot and pursue WELL Building Certification, Lakehouse was crafted with conscious design and a true awareness of the impact that the built environment can have on human health and wellness. That’s why NAVA partnered with TRIO, a best-in-class national design and visual merchandising firm to help bring the community to life.

Their shared commitment to holistic wellness was essential throughout the interior design process. It was the team’s top priority to ensure that all furnishings, fixtures and materials were carefully selected to create community living spaces that were not only beautiful and inviting, but also in line with WELL best practices.

We sat down with Angela Harris, CEO of TRIO, to give us an inside look into a few interior design highlights that future residents at Lakehouse have to look forward to and the process that made it all happen:

Tell us about the interior design process at Lakehouse.
TRIO played an integral role in creating the initial interior design aesthetic for Lakehouse – starting with the original Sales Center. The state-of-the-art space was equipped with an interactive floor plan experience, finish boards and kitchen and bathroom vignettes designed to give potential residents a taste of what was in store at the community long before they were able to walk its halls.

The team worked together for over a year to determine the best furniture plan for the community. Selections by brands like Bernhardt and Restoration Hardware were layered with custom pieces to build a comfortable and sophisticated environment for residents to enjoy for years to come.

How did the WELL Building Standard influence the selected furniture and materials?
NAVA and TRIO made every decision with the WELL Building Standard in mind. Knowing that onsite verification of air quality would occur as part of certification, we selected the “cleanest” materials possible and then ordered the pieces well in advance so that everything had time to complete the off-gassing process before installation.

Every furnishing, fabric, textile and design orientation within Lakehouse was carefully-selected to adhere to BIFMA standards to ensure durability, sustainability and product performance. Inspired by the surrounding natural beauty of Sloan’s Lake Park, the TRIO team incorporated a selection of durable and high-quality materials throughout the community to enhance comfort, well-being and everyday function.

With biophilic design at the centerpiece of Lakehouse’s philosophy, the interior furnishings were made of wood, stone, natural fibers and fabrics to mimic the surroundings and create an authentic connection to nature. Soft spoken, muted color schemes were selected to create an elegant and calming atmosphere throughout the spaces.

How else does the interior design promote human health and wellness?
TRIO also aimed to enhance the amenities and programming that would be available onsite for Lakehouse residents through the interior design. For example, the Urban Farm offers organic vegetables and herbs grown with the intention of encouraging residents to eat healthier. We designed large community gathering tables in the Resident Lounge to encourage people to gather with friends and neighbors over food.
