Lakehouse Guide to the Best Leaf Peeping Adventures Around Colorado

Fall is officially here in Denver and with Lakehouse being centrally located to some of the best leaf-peeping destinations in the state, there’s no better way to embrace the autumn season than submerging yourself into Colorado’s best fall foliage.

Grab your sweaters and take a day trip to one of the top seven places within two hours of Lakehouse to experience some of the best leaf-peeping destinations in the state. Here’s just a few of our favorites:

Boulder, Colorado (Distance from Lakehouse: 35 minutes)
Dubbed “the city nestled between the mountains and reality”, Boulder is tucked into the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and is just a quick drive away from Denver. Whether you’re looking to explore the Mapleton Hill, the hundreds of acres of pine-scented trails or the eclectic dining options that make Boulder “America’s Foodiest Town” there’s something for everyone to do in this quaint mountain town.

Golden, Colorado (Distance from Lakehouse: 45 minutes)
Head 45 minutes west to the small, historic town of Golden, Colorado which lives up to its name, offering 12,000 acres of hiking trails lined with golden aspen groves. Don’t forget to stop by Coors Brewery after a chilly morning hike to view the largest single-site brewery in the world.

Guanella Pass (Distance from Lakehouse: 1 hour, 15 minutes)
As the perfect Saturday morning adventure, Guanella Pass is a 22-mile former burro trail that was recently featured by The New York Times as “a stunning, high-alpine cirque allowing you to bear witness to this whole spectacle, from aspens to tundra.” Guanella Pass boasts extraordinary views of Mount Bierstadt and Mount Evans before lowering into a bursting sight of golden aspen and pine trees. Keep an eye out for sightings of moose and pronghorn during the drive.

Kenosha Pass (Distance from Lakehouse: 1 hour, 15 minutes)
According to Colorado Life Magazine, Kenosha Pass is one of the top five hotspots for the best fall colors near Denver. With a range of hiking trails for all skill levels, enjoy the changing aspen trees during the peak autumn months.

Breckenridge, Colorado (Distance from Lakehouse: 1 hour, 32 minutes
Breckenridge is one of the first places in the country to experience the changing of leaves and it does not disappoint. Take a stroll through Main Street or head up to one of the many biking trails in the city to soak in the crisp air and falling leaves painted all shades of red, yellow and orange.

Peak to Peak Scenic Byway (Distance from Lakehouse: 1 hour 25 minutes)
Noted as one of the best places in Colorado for leaf peeping, Peak to Peak Scenic Byway delivers an abundance of aspen and evergreen trees blanketed with fall hues. The 59-mile drive is the oldest scenic byway in Colorado and takes you all  the way from Black Hawk to Este Park.
