How to Make the Most of Summer on the Water at Lakehouse

Denver folks can never get enough of the revitalizing force of its green spaces and proximity to nature is one of Lakehouse’s most beloved features. Lakehouse’s many open-air activities, facilities and programs allow residents to embrace the best of the season—and the area—while staying close to home. Here, we highlight a few ways to make the most of summer on the water at Lakehouse.

Take to the Lake
When the heat of summer turns up, we’re always eager to get to the water and cool off. Luckily for us at Lakehouse, Sloan’s Lake — the largest in Denver — is just across the street, and offers a true haven for water sports and leisure activities.

While motorized boats aren’t allowed this year, hand-launched vessels such as canoes, paddleboards and kayaks are welcome, and require no permit. Plus, Lakehouse residents can access our Aquatics Room, which is stocked with all the gear you’ll need for stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking their way through the Denver summer.

Fishing is also allowed everywhere except for the channel between Sloan’s Lake island and the shore. Alive with flathead catfish, blue catfish, black crappie, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, brown trout and bluegill, Sloan’s Lake has a wide variety of catches for anglers to seek out either from the dock or by boat.

Get into a Flow on the Patio
On Wednesdays, Lakehouse’s avid (and amateur) yogis take our Yoga Flow classes out on the South Terrace. Tailored to fit every skill level, these classes are the perfect way to fully appreciate the lakeside view and revitalizing sunshine while strengthening mind and body.

Dip in the Pool
What’s a summer without sun-filled swim days? Our 70-foot, UV-filtered lap pool is not only optimal for proper exercise, but also for enjoying the views of the lake and mountains beyond. Lakehouse periodically hosts resident pool parties, so our community members can make a summer social splash as well.

Break a Sweat
For the cooler days of summer, there’s still an ample amount to enjoy around the lake for those who prefer to stand on solid ground. The multi-use trails are perfect for hiking, biking, jogging and rollerblading. Plus, Lakehouse’s onsite Sports Workshop offers tools for quick bike repairs and tune-ups so your wheels are always in top gear.

The surrounding park also includes a variety of sports courts and fields to get your game on. With spaces for basketball, baseball and softball, football and soccer, there’s plenty of room for friendly competition this summer. There’s also two playgrounds ideal for family outings. We even hear the tennis courts will be turned into brand new pickleball courts soon!

Lakeside Eats
A summer on the lake is always sweetened by the selection of amazing local restaurants by the shore — dine with a waterside view at buzzy daytime eatery Rupert’s at the Edge or the dog-friendly bar The Patio at Sloan’s. If you’re looking up for a vintage, cash-only dive bar right by the water, Lakeview Lounge is a knockout option for no frills and good vibes. And what is a Colorado summer without a tour of our renowned craft breweries? Right on the southeast corner of the lake is popular independent craft brewery Odell Brewing Brewhouse & Pizzeria. And for the days you find yourself on the opposite northwest end of the lake, Joyride Brewing Company is another popular small craft brewery with great staff and beer.

The lake’s perimeter also offers numerous picnic tables, a sheltered picnic area and plenty of grassy spots for picnic blankets — so prepare your own lunch or grab your favorite takeout and enjoy the stunning lake, city and mountain views outside!
